We are delighted to announce that we have received funding from Trust Greenbelt for My Choice Matters.
My Choice Matters is an ambitious project in which ten 14-16-year-olds from a pupil referral unit in Hackney will devise a play about gun and knife crime, and then perform it in a London courtroom. Over 12 drama sessions we will work with young people who are at risk of being socially marginalized and susceptible to gun and knife crime in the area. Their ideas will take centre-stage and the sessions will be led by workshop leaders from Total Insight Theatre, local magistrates and officers from the MET.
Born out of artistic director Adam Tulloch’s moving one-man production The Gun, My Choice Matters is a unique opportunity for participants to be creative, experiment, test out and take risks with new ideas whilst devising a play from scratch. Over the course of the programme, participants will gain a better understanding of the law and legal process with the aim of preventing their absorption into London gang culture. We aim to provide a new platform for young people to discuss, share and reflect on their experiences of violent crime and simultaneously develop their artistic skills.
We thank Trust Greenbelt for their funding and support for the programme. For more information about Trust Greenbelt please click here.
