Our Inspirational Figures workshops are adapted for primary and secondary school children, and are designed to lift history off the page as they learn about historic black figures from around the world. In addition to drama, the children will be inspired by different photographs of the people featured, and will have the opportunity to develop their creative writing skills.
Participants will learn about prominent figures such as Olaudah Equiano, Dido Elizabeth Belle and 19th century nurse Mary Seacole as well as lesser known figures like 19th century composer Samuel Coleridge Taylor, Phillis Wheatley who was the first published African-American female poet, 18th century boxer Tom Molineaux and Mary Prince, the first woman to present an anti–slavery petition to Parliament.
Please note that we place great emphasis on safeguarding the children we work with. All our workshop leaders and assistants are therefore fully trained and have valid enhanced DBS certificates.
